Annual Appeal 2023

“I Don’t Go South” © Donna Tessari.

We are asking for your support for the 2023 Annual Appeal for the Hyde Park Art Association at the Menino Arts Center. We support local artists and provide cultural opportunities to families, students, and seniors who may not otherwise have the means to participate. We enrich community life and serve as a unifying force in the neighborhood, helping to create a more vibrant Hyde Park commercial district.

We have emerged from the pandemic stronger than ever, with a mix of new and old programming. Our membership has grown to 135 local artists and supporters. This year once again all our exhibitions have been hosted both physically at the MAC and virtually in Kunstmatrix, which is a virtual 3D gallery space that you can stroll through. Workshops have been held both physically at the MAC and virtually on Zoom. Our spring and fall concerts are going strong, this year’s series funded in part by a Mass Cultural Council Grant. We returned to in person poetry readings at the MAC in April 2023, and our Friday Portrait Group returned in April as well from a three year hiatus due to the pandemic.

We will accept a donation in any amount, but for a generous donation of $100 or more we would like to show our appreciation by giving you a matted print by longtime HPAA member Donna Tessari titled “I Don’t Go South”. This is our way of not only thanking you but also giving you a small piece of what the Hyde Park Art Association at the Menino Arts Center is all about. Donna’s earliest efforts were sketches of adorable pixie-esque animals & people, which she developed into abstract or fanciful images when attending Boston State College’s art program. As she entered the work force, she put away her brushes and took up photography as her primary artistic focus. After retirement as a postal clerk she enthusiastically returned to the canvas and was fortunate to be included in several local exhibits. Donna joined the HPAA in 2016, and she was a constant presence at HPAA events with husband Curt Naihersey. Donna died suddenly in 2021, leaving two unfinished paintings on her easels.

HPAA is a 501 (c)(3) organization. Your donation is tax-deductible within the limits of the law. Thank you for your generous support, it will make a tangible difference in our community.
